COBA Alert : Graduation of Recruit Class 107

September 4, 2021

Graduation of Sheriffs Dept Recruit Class 107

On Friday Sept 3rd, Nassau County Sheriffs Dept Recruit Class 107 graduated 26 new Correction Officers into our much needed and depleted ranks. It's a start as COBA continues the fight for new Correction Officers during what seems like a never ending staffing crisis in the field of Corrections. As we've stated numerous times before, we are far from alone in fighting staffing problems in New York as almost every municipality from Nassau and Suffolk through New York City up through Buffalo has failed to properly keep up with attrition and recruitment after Bail Reform changed the landscape in New York.

Yesterday's Graduation was a marked upgrade from those past, as Class 107 had the distinction of being the first ever class of any Law Enforcement Agency to be sworn in and graduate at the County's new Training and Intelligence Facility located just east of Nassau Community College in Uniondale.

The ceremony kicked off with a rousing performance by the Nassau County Police Depts Pipe and Drum Band and was attended by County Executive Curran, Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, Suffolk Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr, NYS Commission of Correction Chairman Allen Riley as well as numerous County Legislators.

Sheriff Dzurenda and Academy Commanding Officer, Sgt. Ray Cotto ran a well planned program, and the Sheriffs Dept Honor Guard once again proudly represented our Department with a flawless presentation of the Colors.

Welcome to the job Class 107 !!

Stay safe and always watch each others backs!!

See below some photos of the Graduation.
