LI News Radio 103.9 FM
Dear COBA Members;
This past Sunday, Newsday ran an investigative story regarding the recovery of Jail contraband (Drugs) dating back a few years in our facility.
This information was garnered from hundreds of written reports that were obtained by Newsday from the NYS Commission of Correction. It was a very informative and in depth investigation that underscores what COBA has been fighting for these past years, which is for this County to stop cost cutting measures at our facility that have led to years of neglect, and begin to invest not only in the infrastructure of our facility but invest in increased security measures to keep this place safe and as free from contraband as possible. This is not unique to Nassau County, as our Brothers and Sisters in neighboring Depts of Correction face almost identical circumstances.
Earlier today, I was asked to be interviewed on LI News Radio regarding this story where I expanded on COBA's position regarding this very real issue that our Officers face and the fantastic job they do every day in keeping this facility safe with little to no resources and again, a track record of neglect and years long lack of training. We will continue this fight going forward, especially after the COVID crisis finally begins to wane and see that these issues are specifically addressed and that things turn around here.
Be assured that COBA will always continue that fight on behalf of our dedicated members.

Stay safe and healthy;
