Dear COBA Member,
With the impending snowstorm forecasted to impact our area beginning on Sunday January 25th and potentially continuing through Monday January 26th, I met with Commissioner Sposato and Captain Cangero to discuss the Unions concerns regarding this storm. I focused on the predicted significant snowfall, reduced visibility, and hazardous travel conditions in regards to our members reporting for duty during this time. My main goal was to ensure safety for our Officers both while on duty and reporting to and from work.
With that in mind, the Commissioner has agreed to implement the following measure:
Beginning with the 0001-0800 tour on Sunday January 25th and at a minimum continuing through the 0800-1600tour on January 26th.
Any COBA member who completes 16 hours on duty can voluntarily stay at the facility in order to sleep, rest or relax for what would be considered a third tour worked and be paid at their overtime rate for those 8 hours.
That COBA member will NOT be assigned to any post for that third tour. But will then be available for their next tour after that 8-hour paid break is completed.
This applies for ALL COBA members!
Some examples of this would be the following.
Example #1: If you work your regular shift of 0800-1600on Saturday the 24th and then work the 1600-2400 on overtime. You can voluntarily choose to stay on the Correctional Center grounds and be paid overtime for the 0001-0800 tour and then report for your regular tour of 0800-1600 on Sunday January 25th.
Example #2: If you work your regular shift of 1600-2400on Saturday the 24th and then work the 0001-0800 on overtime. You can voluntarily choose to stay on the Correctional Center grounds and be paid overtime for the 0800-1600 tour and then report for your regular tour of 1600-2400 on Sunday January 25th
Example #3: If you work your regular shift of 0001-0800on Sunday the 25th and then work the 0800-1600 on overtime. You can voluntarily choose to stay on the Correctional Center grounds and be paid overtime for the 1600-2400 tour and then report for your regular tour of 0001-0800 on Monday January 26th
Currently, the Maintenance Unit is preparing B1C for space that Officers may choose to stay, sleep, rest or relax.
B1C: Cleaned and new mattresses wrapped in plastic are being delivered.
As other areas become available the Tour Commanders will be notified.
