Today your Union was once again at the forefront, blasting County Executive Laura Curran and Nassau County for their ridiculous decision to evict Federal ICE Agents from the Jail Campus. On the heels of a poor decision from the NYS Appellate Court in an action against Suffolk County declaring that Correctional Facilities can no longer hold inmates on ICE Detainers, Nassau County took the unprecedented action of evicting ICE completely from the Jail Campus. This action is absurd and in direct conflict with Law Enforcement and Public Safety principles since both the Nassau County Sheriff's Dept and Police Dept Gang Units routinely share information and conduct investigations of Gang criminal activity from within our Facility. The absurdity of this move is no more evident than looking at what's gone on recently in Nassau and Suffolk Counties involving murders committed by MS-13 Gang members, many of whom are incarcerated in our facility.
