Appointment of Capt. Vera Fludd as Undersheriff of Nassau County

January 2, 2018

Earlier today, December 28th,  Correction Captain Vera Fludd was appointed to the position of Undersheriff of the Nassau County Sheriffs Department. I had the pleasure of witnessing Sheriff Sposato swear her in with the Oath of Office. It is anticipated that at midnight on January 1st, 2018, U/S Fludd will assume the position of Acting Sheriff once Sheriff Michael Sposato's tenure ends, as per the County Charter. I have had several conversations with U/S Fludd and wished her nothing but success in her new role. It is exciting and refreshing to see a lifelong dedicated member of this Department, who rose through every rank in Corrections, be appointed to this position.

I also spoke with County Executive Elect Laura Curran today and expressed our pleasure with having one of our own put in the position to run this Dept. We have not had a homegrown Correction professional appointed to run this Dept since Joseph Jablonsky many years ago. COBA fully supports Vera moving into this position. She knows this job intimately and knows how this Dept should be run.

Capt. Tony Fratto will be temporarily assigned as her Administrative Captain to assist in her transition. I would also expect to soon see others assigned to her team.

Speaking on behalf of COBA, I wish Undersheriff Vera Fludd nothing but luck and much success. I have also offered our assistance in any way to help turn this place around.
